Host An Event
(can be called “Battle for Purity” or “Friday Night Fight” or “Finally Free” “Pursuing Holiness Together,” etc.)
Two keys from our experiences: Attendance and promotion by the lead pastor and elders is vital. Planned and persistent follow-up from leaders within the church is a must.
Our events are hosted in the local church and feature the following aspects:
Break Bread – Normally something simple to serve like pizza. If breakfast, it can be as simple or as complex as the host church desires. The church can charge for the meal or cover the cost through their internal budget. Normally on a Friday or Saturday night or a Saturday morning.
Purity Testimonies - Two men testify to the freedom that they have found through confessing their sin to another brother and addressing their heart idolatries. Ideally, the host church would have one or two of their own men share a purity testimony – 5 minutes, written out and rehearsed. We can also provide a testimony from one of our many men who want to serve. PowerPoint Presentation speaking to the hope and help we find in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It emphasizes the biblical instructions found in 1 John 1:5-9, confessing sin, walking in the light, prayer, accountability, transparency, commitment to God’s Word.
Table Discussions (optional) - We will train table leaders before the event and provide basic question. These are not meant to force confessions or shame men in any way. Rather, they are meant to encourage conversation about the testimonies and the presentation in order to bring men to a point of furthering the conversation and directly addressing their own sin through confession and repentance.
Call to Repentance & Confession - At the conclusion of the presentation or table time, we ask the men to respond in a clear way in order to repent, confess their sins, and pray with someone. The “chaplain” or table leader listen to all who respond and encourage them to sign-up for and complete the three- or four-session follow-up training.
Follow-up Training - Before or right after the event, we need 2 or 3 of your lay leaders that agree to a 30 minute session to walk them through the materials they will use to do the three- or four-session follow-up training. The men who will go through the training receive their books at the event.
The follow-up training is conducted once a week for 3-4 weeks – night and time to be decided by host church. Each group will cover all 9 chapters, the introduction, and conclusion of the book Finally Free, using the questions we have developed around those chapters and/or the guides in the book.Materials – We provide all event and small group materials on our website. We only ask to be reimbursed $10 for each book that you get from us – we can bring to the event – you do not need to prepare or create any materials.
Advertising - We provide samples of what a ½ page bulletin insert could look like. The local church is the primary advertising vehicle. Ideally, the pastoral staff would invite our staff to address an area pastor’s gathering to do promotion as well.
Honoraium - We do not ask for honorariums. If the church wants to make a love gift, it should be made to: Broken Strength, PO Box 46497, Plymouth, MN 55446
Other Information- We love it when 2 or more churches go together to host an event. We would rather bless a city than a single church.
